Cornwall Alternative School has been part of the Regina education landscape for almost 50 years. Our mission is to help Regina students between Grades 7 and 12 get their education path back on track.
We are located in East Regina, which often has our students participate in outings and learning extension activities such as sage and berry picking, camping trips, and traditional storytelling.
Cornwall referrals are from local school boards and must meet the criteria of extreme challenges in attendance, behavior, and academic success. We are for those who have experienced difficulty in a mainstream education setting and provide the opportunity to obtain an education in a holistic and supportive environment.
Staff collaboration and co-construction are essential in the individualized program plan to achieve student success and start with meeting the students where they are at.
Our team supports the navigation of daunting mental health and learning hurdles. Doing so reduces students’ risk for dropout and justice involvement is reduced, and their likelihood of attending a post-secondary school or finding full-time employment increases dramatically.
We blend mental health support and Indigenous education with the Saskatchewan Curriculum Outcomes, including credit-based Grade 10, 11 and 12 programs. Our program has had outstanding success over the years, and we look forward to working with our next generations of students.
Cornwall is a special place because of how much staff help students succeed. Moving to Cornwall changed my life for the better; graduating wasn’t even a thought in my mind until I moved here. It is an entirely different school because it focuses on your needs to succeed. I regained almost all my confidence, and I enjoy coming to school every day now. I honestly was starting to think I was a lost cause before I moved here, and now I feel like I am worth more. It’s hard to pick my favourite memory, but I’d have to say that when we went curling, it was a class, and everyone had fun.
